We have all been through good times and bad times. For most of us, the good times outweigh the bad. For others, it seems as though we’re constantly struggling through bad times without any relief. This was my struggle for a long time, as it pertained to my fertility. But I managed to turn my life around and I now feel grateful, grounded and guided towards my purpose in life – to share my journey and help other women who are going through the same struggle as I did.
Where it all began
At the age of 24, I had my first ectopic pregnancy. For those of you who aren’t familiar with this term, an ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg attempts to travel to the uterus to attach itself to grow, but instead attaches to the fallopian tube, abdominal cavity or cervix. It’s fairly rare, occurring in one out of every 50 pregnancies. When an ectopic pregnancy is discovered, the pregnancy is terminated as it is highly dangerous for the mother’s health and ability to have children in the future. Ectopic pregnancies can be caused by a number of factors and conditions, ranging from genetic abnormalities, inflammation, hormones and medical conditions affecting the fallopian tubes and reproductive organs.
After my first ectopic pregnancy, I had seven surgeries after a laparoscopy went extremely badly. A laparoscopy is a low-risk, minimally invasive procedure used to examine the abdominal organs, however it went horribly wrong and I was forced to have a tubal ligation procedure, rendering me infertile. As you can imagine, this was earth shattering. Like most women, I had always dreamt of having children and the news that I would never be able to have one naturally, wrenched my heart out.
This put me on a path of spiritual awakening, not before I experienced some very low, dark times. I felt deep sadness, shame, guilt, anger, disappointment, pain and I hated myself and my body for not being able to have children. I suffered depression, PTSD and suicidal thoughts during these times.
My doctor told me that my body wouldn’t be able to handle a pregnancy, but what the doctor didn’t tell me, is that I was experiencing hormonal imbalance and inflammation, and that conventional medicine wouldn’t be able to fix that. I went on a journey to heal myself naturally, through alternative and natural medicine.
Whether my hormonal imbalance, inflammation and mental anguish caused my infertility or not, I knew that spreading the awareness of healing yourself naturally to avoid fertility problems needed to be my life’s mission. Today I help women heal themselves through diet, exercise, breathing and spiritual alignment so that they don’t have to suffer like I did. The body, mind and spirit are connected – what goes on in your mind manifests in the body, perhaps as chronic pain, digestive issues or fertility problems.
